Sign the petition against intimidation at abortion clinics!

Last Friday we organised a benefit for the Abortion Network Amsterdam, and we raised 245 euros! A big thank you for everyone who came and donated 💜🖤

It’s amazing that we raised so much money for the Abortion Network Amsterdam, but there is still a lot of work to do to help people get access to safe abortions. We got contacted by other activists that many people who have to go to an abortion clinic are being harassed and intimitaded by anti-abortion activists. This needs to stop! Humanistisch Verbond decided to create a petition against the harassment, which you can sign here!

The petition will be handed over to all municipalities that have an abortionclinic. But we will not sit still and stay silent. We think that these anti-abortion activists are crossing boundaries in a violent and disgusting way. If you know that there is an abortion clinic close to the place you live, go there and scare the anti-abortion activists away!

Benefit Eatcafé & Concert for the Abortion Network Amsterdam!

On the 22nd of March, the feminist initiative Kattenkwaad organizes a benefit eatcafé and a concert for Abortion Network Amsterdam (ANA).

About the Abortion Network Amsterdam (ANA)

ANA exists is a group of volunteers who came together to create a network of support for women who don’t have access to safe abortion because of a number of reasons:
– they don’t have access to legal abortion in the country of origin;
– the country where they reside doesn’t provide late term abortion;
– they don’t have access to legal abortion because of their status in the country

ANA provides the women with housing and some of the basic needs, help with transportation and translation in some cases. We make sure they get all the documents needed for the abortion, help set up an appointment and choose the appropriate clinic.

Acties tegen ‘Mars voor het Leven’

Vandaag hebben activisten van het Haagse autonome feministische initiatief Kattenkwaad verschillende acties georganiseerd tegen de anti-abortus demonstratie van de christen-fundamentalistische groep ‘Schreeuw om Leven’ in Den Haag. Na zorgwekkende ontwikkelingen omtrent abortushulpverlening is het de hoogste tijd om op te staan voor het recht op abortus en de heropleving van de slogan ‘Baas in eigen buik!’

Rond het middaguur hebben meerdere activisten de welkomsceremonie van de ‘Mars voor het Leven’ verstoord door luid scanderend het podium op te klimmen en bordjes met ‘Baas in eigen buik’ omhoog te houden. Enkele ogenblikken later werden zij door beveiliging van het podium afgehaald. Er zijn twee arrestaties verricht.
Update 18:10: de arrestanten zijn weer vrij.

Gelijktijdig was er in de Grote Marktstraat een flyeractie op touw gezet. Feministen hadden zich er met een spandoek en een informatiepunt met warme thee opgesteld en gingen met voorbijgangers in gesprek over het recht op abortus en zelfbeschikking. Met de flyer wilden zij o.a. de aandacht vestigen op het adviesorgaan Siriz, die er zegt te willen zijn voor mensen die ongewild zwanger zijn en soms een abortus willen ondergaan. Siriz komt echter voort uit de Vereniging tot Bescherming van het Ongeboren Kind en onderzoek heeft een paar weken geleden aangetoond dat Siriz geen neutraal advies geeft over abortus. Ondanks een golf van kritiek heeft de tweede kamer in oktober besloten om de subsidie aan Siriz, die inmiddels 1,5 miljoen euro bedraagt, niet stop te zetten. Ook informeert de flyer over het faillissement van de CASA-abortusklinieken. CASA voerde de helft van alle abortussen in Nederland uit. Het Ministerie van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport wilde CASA niet redden van faillissement. Helaas heeft dit een enorme impact gehad op de toegankelijkheid voor abortushulpverlening. De wachttijden voor abortus werden twee tot drie keer zo lang, waardoor het voor sommigen onmogelijk werd gemaakt om een abortus te ondergaan voor de wettelijke grens van 24 weken.

Standpunt van Kattenkwaad:

Wij zijn vóór het recht op abortus en vóór keuzevrijheid en autonomie! Abortusrecht is een mensenrecht. Iedereen moet de mogelijkheid hebben om zelf te beslissen over wat er met hun lichaam gebeurt en niemand mag ons dit recht op zelfbeschikking afnemen. Het recht op veilige abortus moet worden beschermd, zodat er geen risicovolle methoden gebruikt hoeven te worden. Intolerantie ten opzichte van individuele keuzevrijheid mag niet de ruimte krijgen om te groeien!

Baas in Eigen Buik Stencils!

In 2017 the law to make the abortionpill (or overtime pill) available at the general practitioner was reversed. A couple of months later the CASA abortion clinics, that performed half of the abortions, went bankrupt. The ministry of health, welfare and sport did nothing to prevent this. And recently a research on Siriz (an abortion aid organization) has shown that they give false and discouraging advise to those that seek information about abortion. Siriz receives €1,5 million in subsidies per year. These alarming developments around abortion rights and access to abortion need to be resisted!

We believe that everyone should have the possiblity to decide what happens to their own body. Nobody should be allowed to take away this right of self-determination. The right to safe abortion has to be protected, so that no unsafe methods need to be used to undergo abortion.

Intolerance against the individual freedom of choice cannot be allowed to grow! You can show your solidarity by getting on the streets. It’s time for ‘my body, my choice!’ (baas in eigen buik) to make a comeback.
